Employer : The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute
Closing date: 26 June 2026
Brief position description:
An exciting opportunity is available for a Research Officer to join the Davidson Laboratory in the Blood Cells and Blood Cancer Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
The role of the Research Officer is to develop and apply data analysis techniques to high-throughput sequencing data. The appointee will contribute to collaborative projects to advance our understanding and treatment of human diseases. The position involves undertaking research with minimal supervision and providing advice and mentoring to other staff and students within the group.
The Davidson Laboratory use computer science and mathematics to analyse complex gene sequencing data, to reveal new insights into disease. The transcriptome, which is the molecular readout of the genome, can be altered in disease. A focus of our research is developing novel bioinformatics methods to identify changes to the transcriptome in cancer, using data generated by contemporary and emerging transcriptome sequencing technologies, such as long-read and single-cell platforms.
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with the ability to develop creative new algorithms and methods for data analysis.
