The Global Organisation for Bioinformatics Learning Education and Training (GOBLET) and ABACBS will host a 'Best Practices in Bioinformatics Training' workshop on November 3rd and 4th 2016, directly after the AB3ACBS conference.
Best Practices in Bioinformatics Training
This workshop is sponsored by GOBLET and ABACBS and there will be no cost to attend.
Date: November 3rd and 4th, 2016
Venue: QUT, Brisbane, Australia
Audience: This workshop will be aimed at the those who have an interest in or are active in training and education, teaching topics relevant to bioinformatics. This includes those teaching in full time degree courses as well as those who teach short specialised courses.
This workshop will provide an opportunity for the local bioinformatics training and education community to come together with GOBLET colleagues to share our training experiences and discuss topics of common interest.
The workshop agenda can be found here and is subject to change.
The first day will be an opportunity to discuss a number of training-related topics, such as: the delivery of training using the cloud and virtual machines, exploration of the use of ISCB core competencies for different bioinformatics roles, and a forum for sharing experiences in teaching programming to novices and the use of clouds and virtual machines for bioinformatics training.
Dr Gabriella Rustici, University of Cambridge

Day 2 GOBLET/ELIXIR Train-the-Trainer Course
We are delighted to be hosting a Train-the-Trainer (TtT) course on Fri Nov 4th.
This GOBLET/ELIXIR TtT course will explore what skills are needed to be a good trainer, different learning styles and learning methods, how to design a training session, how to write learning objectives, and how to develop training materials and collect feedback.
The course will be delivered by an experienced group of trainers from the BPA/CSIRO training network who have participated in a number of Train-the-Trainer courses at the European Bioinformatics Institute and TGAC over the past 4 years.
These trainers have been instructed to deliver Train-the-Trainer material to other trainers by Dr Sarah Morgan (EBI) in the first ever GOBLET/ELIXIR Train-the-Trainer Instructor training course, using material from the EMBL-EBI node of ELIXIR.
NEW! Draft outline and agenda for Day 2 can be found here. Please note, this is subject to change.
This workshop is sponsored by GOBLET and ABACBS and there will be no fee to attend. You can choose to register for each day of the workshop separately.
